Troubleshooting - "An unexpected error occurred"
If you see An unexpected error occurred (sometimes shown as an internal server error), GroupMap could not complete your request because something went wrong on our side. It is not caused by anything you did.
Why this error appears
For example, you may see it when:
- GroupMap briefly can't reach its database or another service it relies on, for example during maintenance or a short outage.
- Something unexpected goes wrong while a page loads, such as a map, a workspace, a report or your account settings. This is a problem for us to fix, so please tell us about it.
Other messages mean something different:
- Whoops, page not found...: the link is wrong, or the map or workspace has been deleted.
- This map is private: you need an invitation to the map. Ask the Facilitator to invite you.
- Synchronization Failed: a change you made wasn't saved. See Troubleshooting - ideas not saving or disappearing.
To fix the error

Wait a moment, then reload the page and try again.

Check GroupMap service status to see if there is a known problem.
- If the error continues, contact us at info@groupmap.com. Include the link to your map, what you were doing, and the time the error appeared.
